Wind Turbines

A wind turbine works the opposite of a fan.
Instead of using electricity to make wind,
like a fan, wind turbines use wind to make electricity.
The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft,
which connects to a generator and makes electricity.

Modern wind turbine installations use the national power grid for electricity storage. When wind power is below consumption, power is drawn from the grid as normal, but if more electricity is generated than used, then the use of import/export meters allow the excess power to be fed back in to the grid to create a credit with the utility supplier.

Wind turbines will begin to turn as soon as there is sufficient wind to create motion.

The average domestic household will use 1.5-5.0 mega watts (1,500-5000kW) of electricity per annum.
